OCTC Applauds Senate Process on HB 205
The Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC) applauds the measured approach taken by the Ohio Senate on House Bill 205 (HB 205). OCTC strongly opposes the legislation, which could have devastating impacts to our workforce in Ohio's refineries.
In the past, we have spoken out against the dangerous and deceptive rhetoric that proponents have employed in advocacting for the measure. Now we feel the need to take a stand against the lack of legislative process for HB 205 in the House. Not only was the bill drafted and introduced in secretive and sudden fashion, but the bill was scheduled for votes in committee and on the House floor before opponents even got a chance to testify on the proposal. This is an unacceptable way to advance legislation. All parties should get the opportunity to discuss the impacts of public policies before our elected officials.
On a more positive note, OCTC commends our friends in the upper chamber for their transparent and deliberate approach to this important bill. Our member companies have the utmost regard for the safety of our facilities, especially the employees and contractors who work in and around our sites. We appreciate that our legislative leaders in the Ohio Senate are taking these conversations with the seriousness they deserve.
OCTC appreciated the opportunity to testify in opposition to HB 205 in Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee last week. We look forward to continuing to work with Ohio's public policymakers ensure our state can continue to prosper.
